Voodoo Queen

down in new orleans
in the vieux carré
with its rice and beans
and its hurricane

in the middle of the neon light bars
under louisiana moon and stars

there is that wooden shack with the dusty windows shivers on your back
when you get close

if you wanna know what's going on inside you gotta be strong there's no place to hide

the voodoo queen
is back in town
like in a dream she sways around chicken and rum
candles and bones
nowhere to run
a black cat moans

pull away that curtain
made of black goat hide
can you live with that burden
live on withe pride
'cos that voodoo woman will buy your soul can't you hear the thunder roll

marie laveaux
was her mother's name
marie laveaux
picture in a frame
figurines an needles on a shelf
if you watch closely you will find yourself

the voodoo queen
is back in town
like in a dream she sways around chicken and rum
candles and bones
nowhere to run
a black cat moans

lightning in the sky thunder boom howling wind cries

candles light the room
voodoo woman put a spell on you the living dead are after you

get a love potion
or a good luck charm
move with devotion
so she will do you no harm
but better leave before the night closes in or you will get a tattoo on your skin

the voodoo queen
is back in town
like in a dream she sways around chicken and rum
candles and bones
nowhere to run
a black cat moans

Fiesta de los Muertos

i crossed the border in an old chevrolet

i came illegally but i wanted to stay

i was looking for fun adventure and thrill

what i found was more than that and now have to pay the bill

smell of fajitas and beans smell of gasoline

smell of chorros and nachos smell of mescalin

finally i found the place i was looking for

i parked our car outside and stepped through the door

I’m a looser, of this every day race

Was on the wrong line, driving with the wrong pace

Escaping down to Mexico, down to Mary’s place

Long black shiny hair, with an angels face

a mariachi band was playin‘ all the colours seemed so bright

i was drinking i was dancing until deep in the night

the desert moon was shining i heard the coyote howl

el torro de juarez loco, i‘m still on the prowl

hola senorita maria, mi alma mi corazon

come over here and dance with me, let‘s dance on and on

lost myself in her eyes i got out of control

the room started spinning around, lord save my soul

I’m a looser, of this every day race

Was on the wrong line, driving with the wrong pace

Escaping down to Mexico, down to Mary’s place

Long black shiny hair, with an angels face

in the first rays of the morning sun

i was counting my bones

my head was aching my knees were weak my stomach did moan

se a cabo la fiesta de los muertes it‘s time to head back one

last look through dizzy eyes before i get back on my track

I’m a looser, of this every day race

Was on the wrong line, driving with the wrong pace

Escaping down to Mexico, down to Mary’s place

Long black shiny hair, with an angels face

Scotch Sketches

drinking whisky from a coffee cup in the hotel room,
black clouds and drizzlin rain outside
driven over the green rocks
raindrops drawing lines and circles on the surface of the loch wind whisperin in the trees

hear the drops on the leafs

smell of wet forest earth
along the road
stone houses, stone churches,
stone graveyards, stone walls
in the middle of a forest or a meadow
cows'n sheep'n ducks'n dogs'n folks
all lookin like caracters from shawn the sheep

and in the middle of the scenery you'n me
hand in hand
feet on the ground, head in the clouds

an old couple both wearing the same blue rain coat troddin at the side of the road
with a dog far behind them
sniffin and pissin zig zag across the woods raindrops on the windshield

breakin the light comin through the torn up clouds
bumpers sufferin from the deep water filled holes in the road water splashin to the side like a veil
white stripes of rain are swayin over the hills through the valley like feathery curtains or wanderin souls

and in the middle of the scenery you'n me
hand in hand
feet on the ground, head in the clouds

smell of wooden smoke in the pub
a fire in the fireside sending warmth throughout the room warmin up skin and heart of the people
the red cheaked yellow bearded old man
standin at the counter in front of his half empty pint of lager worn out jeans and sneakers
and an ole bleached woolen pullover
smell of the 50 year old carpet and the cloth chairs
who have seen too many asses sittin down
and stayin there until the last call for drinks

and in the middle of the scenery you'n me
hand in hand
feet on the ground, head in the clouds

Highway Cowgirl

I was riding down the highway

When i ran out of gasoline

My clothes were dusty my throat was dry

Then i saw that limousine

It appeared at the horizon

I saw the heat above the road

Slowly it moved towards me

The desert wind blew dust from my coat

Highway Cowgirl came my way

Highway Cowgirl made me stay

Highway Cowgirl that’s the price you have to pay

Highway Cowgirl I die once  everyday

I took the whisky bottle from my dirty bag

And i finished up the rest

I dropped the empty bottle in the sand

I felt the hot sun on my back

A rattlesnake hid under a stone

A scorpion past by my feet

An eagle high above me

Was screaming through the heat

Highway Cowgirl came my way

Highway Cowgirl made me stay

Highway Cowgirl that’s the price you have to pay

Highway Cowgirl I die once (each and) everyday

Then the limousine stopped next to me

With a dust cloud at ist wheels

I couldn’t see the driver first / Because of dust and shining steel

But then the air slowly cleared up

And i could not believe my eyes

I will keep your secret written in the desert wind

Highway Cowgirl came my way

Highway Cowgirl made me stay

Highway Cowgirl that’s the price you have to pay

Highway Cowgirl I die once everyday
